Holistic wellness takes into consideration the mind, body + spirit as interconnected pieces to the overall being. Practicing holistic self care means doing something to reset one of the 5 areas of health: physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual.
Health isn’t just what you eat, how much you move and what you think. Here are some ways that you can practice self care in each of the five areas of holistic health:
Physical: Take some time to stretch, or move your body in some way. Try to plan meals ahead of time which include nutrient dense fruits/vegetables. Limit electronics 1 hour before bed time.
Emotional: Practice mindfulness and stress reduction habits to help manage daily stressors. Keep a journal to record thoughts and feelings if you need an outlet. Seek out therapy to continue emotional growth and break unhealthy patterns.
Social: Make time for in person connections. Set boundaries in your life with people that increase stress and or have toxic energy. Find opportunities to volunteer locally or get involved in interest groups.
Spiritual: Spend time in nature, practice gratitude, take a few minutes each day for meditation or prayer.
Intellectual: Keep your mind active by seeking out learning opportunities and problem solving practices that challenge your brain. Read new books, listen to podcasts, and seek out new information.
